As someone who has interviewed almost 100 sexual assault victims, I know how difficult it is for a survivor to tell her/his story. You open yourself up to ridicule, doxxing, threats and attacks. Some survivors never come forward for these reasons and others. Going public is a personal decision, and as journalists and news consumers, we must respect that.
